ABOUT

Mentoring can be a powerful tool for personal and professional development and is a valuable way for individuals to connect with others to develop their knowledge and skills.
This Mentorship Program is sponsored by the PMI MB Chapter and designed to enhance its participants' professional experience and development. In a six-month-long engagement program, it provides opportunities for junior project managers and/or project professionals (Protègè) to learn from senior project management professionals (Mentors) and other leaders.

Participation is strictly voluntary and free of cost for chapter members in good standing.

**submission of application does not guarantee a spot, accepted candidates will be contacted by the team**

PROGRAM OUTLINE

Stage 1: Initiate

Stage 2: Register

Stage 3: Match

Stage 4: Engage

Stage 5: Close

Initiate

We advise that interested Mentors and Protégés register for our biannual information sessions before the program begins. These sessions offer an overview of the program, including expectations and participation requirements. You can find similar information on our website:

Register

Mentors and Protégés should submit online applications to join the next intake of the Mentorship Program. The application forms collect details about your background, experience, and mentoring goals. The mentorship team will review your application and, if suitable, invite you to the Matchmaking Session.

Match

During the Matchmaking/Pairing Session, both Mentors and Protègès will have the opportunity to introduce themselves and share their reasons for joining the program. Afterward, participants will complete a selection survey, indicating their top three preferences for a mentorship match. The mentorship team will carefully review the applications and preferences of both Mentors and Mentees to identify the most suitable pairings. While we strive to match everyone with their top choice, we cannot guarantee that your first preference will be fulfilled. If the initial pairing is not ideal or if either party requests a re-match, we will work to find an alternative match. In the event that a re-match is not possible, we will place you on a shortlist for our next intake.

Engage

The Kick-off Session marks the start of our 6-month engagement program. This session will begin with a brief presentation, followed by breakout rooms where Mentors and Protégés will meet and engage in goal-setting discussions. We will also provide guidance on building a strong connection and fostering commitment toward a shared mentorship goal. Additionally, the session will cover online tools and tips to enhance collaboration, ensuring that participants are well-equipped to set their mentorship relationships up for success. Once pairs are announced, the mentor and protégé shall communicate directly with each other to establish a suitable meeting schedule and mentorship agenda. The mentorship team will communicate with all active pairs during the course of the official mentorship period (feedback sessions, informal socials, etc.).

Close

At the end of the 6-month engagement program, a closing email will be sent to all participants. A Lessons Learned/Evaluation event will be held to mark the end of the program to reflect and share the success, challenges and best practices for future cohorts. However, if you and your mentor/mentee agree that the relationship has reached its natural conclusion before then, there are steps you can take to close the program effectively. It’s important to be clear about the ending. If you both wish to continue the mentorship relationship, that's excellent—just make sure there’s clarity about your expectations moving forward. If appropriate, take the time to provide feedback on your experience, highlight areas of focus, and summarize the learnings you both gained from the experience. Be sure to thank the other party for their time, and if it feels right, offer constructive feedback on what they did well and what could have been done differently. This feedback should also be shared with the mentorship team to ensure your satisfaction with the program and to help us continue providing the best possible service.

FAQ

How many PDUs will I get?

Mentors and Protégés who hold PMP certification can earn PDUs for their active involvement in the Mentorship Program.

Mentors can earn 1 PDU for every hour volunteered, up to a maximum of 25 PDUs, under the 'Giving Back' category.
Protégés can earn 1 PDU for each hour-long session, under the 'Education' informal learning category.
Each PDU corresponds to 1 hour of face-to-face, phone, or real-time communication between the Mentor and Protégé.

Should I be accepted into the Mentorship Program, am I guaranteed a pairing?

While we will do our best to pair you with a compatible partner, we cannot guarantee a perfect match, as it depends on the number of applications we receive. If we're unable to match you this time, we will be happy to place you on the waiting list for the next intake.

Are mentoring sessions conducted in a confidential manner?

Information exchanged between participants within the formal mentoring relationship is regarded as highly confidential and should not be shared outside the partnership without explicit consent from the other party.

What happens in the case of a mismatch?

A pairing between a Mentor and Protégé may occasionally prove to be unworkable or unsatisfactory for one or both participants. In such cases, within the first 4 weeks (1 month) of the program, either participant (or both) may request a different partner. The Mentorship team will address the situation and strive to resolve the pairing as best as possible, without assigning fault to either party. If a re-match isn't available for the current intake, the Mentor or Protégé will be placed on a waitlist for the next intake

How does the matching/pairing process work?

Matching Workshop
Participants will gather for 2-3 hours, spending 5-10 minutes with each prospective mentorship partner. Profile information, including participant bios and printed worksheets with your prepared goals, expectations, and partnership criteria (completed in pre-work/during application), will be provided.

Attendance at the matching workshop is crucial, as it is the only opportunity to meet other program participants. The date and location of the workshop will be announced before applications are accepted. Those unable to attend may have opportunities to connect with participants who were not paired.

Ranking and Pairing
After the workshop, each participant will submit a shortlist of preferred partners and \"do not match\" selections to the mentorship team within 2 days. Participants will be paired as closely as possible with their selected preferences. Those listed as \"do not match\" will not be paired with you. Pairings will be announced shortly after the workshop.
