October 2018 Chapter Meeting: Project Managing in a Volunteer Environment – Slovenija Folkorama Pavilion

October 2018 Chapter Meeting: Project Managing in a Volunteer Environment – Slovenija Folkorama Pavilion

Have you ever wondered how some volunteer based initiatives run so smoothly, and others not so smoothly? In the volunteer world we do not call the leaders ‘Project Managers’, but many times we ask people to do the exact work that a Project Manager would perform. Come listen and learn as this presentation, and the speaker, takes you on a journey of Project Managing in a volunteer environment. Discover how managing volunteers is different (and the same) from managing resources on our work projects. Learn the nuances of how to get buy in from volunteers such that they can succeed in their endeavors. Finally, discover the satisfaction in seeing people grow, and mentoring them in a way, such that they can become the next ‘Project Managers’ in your organization.

Stan Majowski has over 32 years of experience in the IT field. His first 15 years, Stan spent as a Mainframe System Programmer, and since 2001 Stan has been performing as a Project Manager. Stan spent 9 years Project Managing in IBM Global Services, and has managed projects for a variety of customers, including Visteon, Sears, Discover Card, AT&T, K-Mart, AmerisourceBergen, Coca-Cola and the Government of Alberta. His last 8 years, Stan has been employed by Paradigm Consulting Group in Winnipeg, and works as a Consultant for a local Winnipeg customer. Stan is also involved in the local community, by volunteering and holding multiple Board positions with the Canadian Slovenian Cultural Society, including acting as President for 8 years. Stan also is a member of the Manitoba Association of Basketball Officials; referees high school games in the Winnipeg South Central conference, and has served as Financial Reviewer for the organization.
