December - Virtual Chapter Event

Ways of Working

Have you ever planned & executed a project perfectly, and had nothing but giddy & gleeful stakeholders at the end?

Yeah, me either! But I have come very close, and Change Management was the answer!

Project Management is globally accepted as a tried-and-true business practice that, when executed well, provides organizations with measured, tangible results. However, the world is no longer a place where one can simply plan well enough to be ready for the “Next Big Thing” (see Exhibit A: the COVID 19 Pandemic!).

We’ve seen the emergence and adoption of Agile & Hybrid methods of project management as the answer to the uncertainties of today’s world. However, as the pace of technology and need for organizations to remain flexible continues to increase, Change Management has broken free from Project Management and emerged as a formal discipline designed to help organizations be nimble & adaptable.

Change Management is by no means the new kid in town, but it is relatively young as an established methodology and practice. This presentation will explore

  • What the Change Management discipline is (and is not)
  • What benefits Change Management brings to the table
  • Two of the leading methodologies in the Change Management discipline
  • How Change Management and Project Management can peacefully coexist and compliment each other

Join Christy L. Minshall, Continuous Improvement Technical Specialist at the New York Independent System, as she presents Change Management and Project Management: Frenemies or BFFs?”.

Christy is a Continuous Improvement Technical Specialist at the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) on their Business Process & Quality Services team. With a title like that, she finds it impossible to adequately explain what her role entails (or have printed business cards!), but says it can best be summed up as an “internal consultant who helps business owners improve processes, activities, strategies, plans, or assist with whatever else might fit the bill.” Prior to her current role at the NYISO, Christy served as a project manager in the NYISO’s Project & Program Management team, working on enterprise business application projects – both COTS (commercial of the shelf) implementations as well as custom software builds.

Christy earned her Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from University of Phoenix, her MBA from SUNY University at Albany, and also holds several professional certifications. Christy also volunteers for the local Project Management Institute (PMI) chapter and was elected to the board one year ago. As the chapter’s Vice President of Professional Development Christy organizes the 14-week Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification Prep course and teaches some of the modules. A classic type-A personality, she is currently studying for two certifications – one in change management (CCMP) and one in agile project management (PMI-ACP). Christy also serves as a mentor for individuals entering the project management, process improvement and change management fields.

When not working or engaging in professional development activities, Christy involves herself in various creative pursuits (current obsessions include painting, bead weaving and card making), various intellectual pursuits (reading, logic puzzles & word games), and various lazy pursuits (sleeping and binge-watching canceled TV shows). Christy’s enjoys quality time with her 2 cats, dog, and husband…not necessarily in that order.
